In the performance, two contrasting worlds of dance meet - sports and contemporary. Awkward, comic and even absurd situations are born from this encounter.

Like mirrors to each other, genres highlight an important point about our desire to be together or apart, to belong to a community or to be independent. In sports dances, each participant has a role: in a couple - a man or a woman, in a group - a part that blends into the group's synchrony. Meanwhile, in modern dance there is more individual expression of movement, and gender roles are often mixed up or simply not emphasized.

The movement material of "La CALASH La Latin-LT" is created with the help of sports dance poses and choreographer Palle Granhøj's authorial obstruction technique. This allows the choreographer to transform the movements by limiting their actions and thus reveal the deep layers of the personality and the specific physicality of each performer.

No matter which dance genre you are a fan of, the performance will draw you in with a playful and curious atmosphere created by the different personalities of the dancers.

This performance is based on La CALASH La Latin, a work that premiered in 1997. in Denmark and brought choreographer Palle Granhøj international success with more than 100 performances worldwide. In 2022, the work celebrates its 25th anniversary.

"La CALASH La Latin-LT" is created exclusively for and in conjunction with Sheik Dance Theater. The new performance is based on the same idea and music, but with new choreography, movement material and develops the partner discussion in the dance.

Internationally recognized Danish choreographer Palle Granhøj is famous for his original technique of obstruction. It allows the choreographer to transform the movements of the dancers by limiting their actions, thus revealing the inner layers of their personality. In the last 30 years in close cooperation with dancers, he has created about four dozen dance performances. Mr. Granhøj, who often combines the language of contemporary dance with classical music in his work, has created performances based on the works of Igor Stravinsky (Holy Spring) and Gustav Mahler (2men2mahler and Men & Mahler). Mr. Granhøjus is a regular composer for his Aarhus-based troupe, Granhøj Dans, and his work has already been performed in 49 countries around the world.
